**Chennai, India:** Team India showcased their dominance in the first Test match against Bangladesh, posting a formidable total of 376 runs in their first innings on day one. The Indian team, initially struggling in the first session, found their footing thanks to a stellar partnership between R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Ashwin, in particular, starred with a brilliant century, scoring 113 runs. His knock was studded with 10 boundaries and 2 sixes, marking his sixth Test century and his second at his home ground. Jadeja, on the other hand, played a crucial role with a well-compiled 86 runs.
The duo shattered a 20-year-old record, setting a new benchmark for the highest partnership for the seventh wicket or lower in a Test match against Bangladesh. Their stand of 195 runs completely turned the tide of the match in India’s favor.
Day two saw the Indian team fall to a total of 376, with Jasprit Bumrah being the last wicket to fall. However, their strong first innings total put immense pressure on the Bangladesh team.
In reply, Bangladesh struggled to keep up, losing three wickets for just 26 runs by lunch. Bumrah provided the first breakthrough for India by dismissing Shadmna Islam. Akasdeep then joined the party, picking up two quick wickets – first dismissing Zakir Hasan and then bowling out Mominul Haq.
India’s dominant display put them in a commanding position at the end of day two. With Bangladesh facing a significant deficit, India will be looking to enforce the follow-on and secure a comfortable win in this first Test match.
