Thu Sep 19 11:07:00 UTC 2024: ## Australia Dominate England in First ODI at Trent Bridge

**Nottingham, England:** Australia made light work of a 316-run target to win the first One Day International against England at Trent Bridge on Thursday, securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory. Travis Head starred for the Aussies, smashing an unbeaten 154 off 129 deliveries, his sixth ODI century, and guiding his team to their highest successful run chase at the ground.

England, after winning the toss and opting to bat, started strongly with a century partnership between Ben Duckett (96) and Will Jacks (62). However, the home team’s innings fell apart after a brilliant spell from Marnus Labuschagne (3-39), who dismissed both Duckett and Harry Brook (39), and Adam Zampa (3-49) who cleaned up the middle order, leaving England all out for 315.

Head’s innings, which included 14 fours and three sixes, was a masterclass in attacking batting. He formed a crucial 50-run partnership with Steve Smith (32) and later a 50-run stand with Cameron Green (32) as Australia continued to dominate the chase. Labuschagne also contributed a crucial 77 not out, including two sixes and a four in one over, ensuring the victory for Australia.

Head was awarded Player of the Match for his stunning performance. “I got lucky and Jofra [Archer] bowled a hell of a spell at the start,” said Head after the match. “Glad I can continue, it’s a great wicket here. I thought we did a great job to get it to 315, that start was tough and to survive that I thought it was great.”

England captain, Jos Buttler, acknowledged the Australian dominance. “We did everything we said we were going to do,” he said. “We went out there and scored quickly and when we came out to bowl, we tried to take wickets but it wasn’t our day today, hopefully it can be in the next.”

The two teams will face each other again in the second ODI on Saturday, September 21st.
