Fri Sep 20 10:18:57 UTC 2024: ## Beloved Anime Adaptation of Ramayana Finally Hits Indian Theatres After 31-Year Wait

**New Delhi, India** – After a 31-year wait, fans of the iconic anime adaptation of Valmiki’s Ramayana, “Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama,” will finally get to see the film on the big screen. The film, a rare co-production between India and Japan, will be released in Indian theatres on October 18, 2024, during the festive season of Dussehra and Diwali.

Directed by Koichi Sasaki, Ram Mohan, and Yugo Sako, “The Legend of Prince Rama” was first released in 1992 but faced a ban on its theatrical release in India. It did, however, find its way to Indian television and became a nostalgic favorite for many who grew up watching the Hindi version in the late 90s.

This re-release marks the first time the film will be shown in Indian theatres, bringing a remastered version of the animated classic to the big screen. Geek Pictures India announced the re-release on September 19th, sharing a teaser and poster on social media. The film will be available in four languages: Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu.

“We believe this adaptation of the Ramayana will strike a chord with audiences across all regions and age groups,” said Arjun Aggarwal, co-founder of Geek Pictures India.

The film follows the story of Prince Rama, an incarnation of the god Vishnu, as he embarks on a quest to rescue his wife, Sita, from the demon king Ravana. The film captures key moments from the epic, including Rama’s exile, Sita’s abduction, Hanuman’s devotion, and the final battle between Rama and Ravana. With vibrant animation and a musical score that blends Indian and Japanese influences, the film offers a dynamic portrayal of one of India’s most revered epics.

Adding to the anticipation is the involvement of legendary screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, known for his work on Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and RRR, who contributed his creative vision to the adaptation.

Despite facing controversies in India upon its initial release due to concerns raised by religious groups about the portrayal of the epic by foreign filmmakers, “Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama” is considered a landmark animated interpretation of the Ramayana. Its storytelling and hand-drawn animation, which have stood the test of time, continue to be admired globally.
