Fri Sep 20 05:08:35 UTC 2024: ## Former Indian Cricketer Amey Khurasiya Appointed as Kerala’s New Coach

**Thiruvananthapuram:** The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has appointed former Indian cricketer Amey Khurasiya as the new coach of the Kerala cricket team. The decision comes after the KCA decided not to renew the contract of the current coach, M. Venkataraman.

Khurasiya was selected from a pool of 10 applicants, including Australian legend Shaun Tait, who had also applied for the position. While the KCA initially considered a foreign coach, they ultimately decided to go with an Indian coach this time.

Khurasiya, a left-handed batsman and spinner, played 12 ODIs for India between 1999 and 2001. He also has a rich experience in domestic cricket, having played 119 first-class matches for Madhya Pradesh and even serving as their coach.

The KCA’s decision to appoint Khurasiya comes after a disappointing season for Kerala. They failed to reach the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy last season. The new coach will be tasked with improving the team’s performance in the upcoming season, which is scheduled to begin in the second week of October.

The Kerala team’s training camp will commence next week. The delay is attributed to the recently concluded Kerala Cricket League tournament.
