Thu Sep 19 18:08:16 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu to Bid for National Forest Staff Sports Meet

**Coimbatore, September 19, 2024:** The two-day State Forest Sports Meet commenced at the Tamil Nadu Forest Academy (TNFA) grounds in Coimbatore today, with over 600 staff from 12 forest divisions participating.

Forest Minister M. Mathiventhan inaugurated the event and announced that Tamil Nadu would be bidding to host the 28th All India Forest Staff Sports Meet next year. He highlighted the state’s previous hosting of the eighth edition in 2000 and expressed confidence in Tamil Nadu’s ability to successfully organize the national event.

The 27th All India Forest Staff Sports Meet is scheduled to be held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh from October 16 to 20. Tamil Nadu secured fifth place in the 26th meet held in Panchkula, Haryana last year, winning 18 gold, 16 silver, and 17 bronze medals.

Mr. Mathiventhan further announced that he would request Chief Minister M.K Stalin to provide cash rewards to winners of the national meet. Currently, the department awards ₹20,000, ₹15,000, and ₹10,000 to staff who win gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively.
