**New Delhi, India** – The Indian government is launching a new initiative to combat cybercrime nationwide. The “Samanvaya” portal will act as a central hub for data sharing among state police forces, allowing them to effectively track and apprehend cyber criminals.
The portal will be powered by the “Pratibimb” software, developed by the Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). It will allow law enforcement agencies to map the locations of suspects, mule bank accounts, ATM withdrawals, SIM card points of sale, and residences, using data from the government’s “PM Gatishakti” platform.
Samanvaya will also serve as a data repository, a crime mapping tool, and a platform for data analytics and coordination. It will enable agencies to analyze inter-state connections of mobile numbers, bank accounts, and IMEI numbers, and to request CCTV footage and related information from banks across India.
In addition to the portal, the Ministry of Home Affairs is creating a special “Cyber Commandos” wing. These commandos will be trained to counter cyber security threats and will serve as first responders to cyber attacks in various states and union territories. The ministry aims to recruit 5,000 cyber commandos over the next five years.
The ministry has also launched a mobile app called “cyberdost”, which allows citizens to report cybercrime complaints.
These new initiatives are part of the Indian government’s broader strategy to combat the growing threat of cybercrime. By sharing data, coordinating efforts, and training specialized personnel, India aims to effectively protect its citizens and secure its digital landscape.
