Wed Sep 18 14:14:00 UTC 2024: ## Highway Robbery Concerns Rise on Mysuru-Bengaluru Stretch Despite Traffic Enforcement Success

**Mysuru:** While the Mysuru-Bengaluru National Highway-275 boasts reduced accident rates thanks to AI-enabled speed monitoring, travellers are increasingly voicing concerns over rampant highway robberies. Despite successful traffic enforcement, the 119-km stretch has become a haven for criminals, with motorists accusing the police of prioritising fines over their safety.

Since the highway’s opening in March 2023, the Ramanagara-Srirangapatna section has witnessed 12 major robberies. The incidents, primarily targeting lone travellers and couples, occur between midnight and 4 am, with criminals ambushing victims at knifepoint and stealing cash and jewellery.

The police have confirmed the rise in robbery cases and confirmed a recent arrest of a four-member gang. They are carrying out regular patrols, surveillance, and have strategically placed cameras. However, commuters demand proactive measures and a shift in focus to address robbery cases. They highlight the reluctance of victims to report due to the inconvenience of filing multiple reports, which emboldens criminals.

Areas like Siddalingapura-Mandya, Amaravathi Hotel Bypass, Maddur Bypass, Kesthur-Channapatna, and Ramanagara are particularly vulnerable. The police acknowledge the challenges posed by the lack of identification of perpetrators due to the crimes occurring under the cover of darkness.

This situation has prompted calls for increased police presence, better lighting, and intensified efforts to tackle the growing crime wave. As the highway continues to witness an increase in traffic, ensuring the safety of travellers and addressing these concerns remains a priority for the authorities.
