Wed Sep 18 15:38:00 UTC 2024: ## Local Angler Reports on Fishing Trip, Bobcat Hunting Season, and NRA Banquet

**Anderson, IN** – Local outdoor enthusiast Rick Bramwell recently enjoyed a trip to Owen County, catching up with friends and enjoying some fishing. Despite a few small catches, Bramwell found the real highlights of the trip were reconnecting with friends and exploring the diverse landscape of the area.

Bramwell visited friends in Freedom, delivered a fishing outfit to a young girl, and enjoyed a meal and conversation with another set of friends at their cabin. He also had the opportunity to explore the area’s wild country with friends Carl and Gary Cloud, helping them harvest turkey tail mushrooms.

Beyond the local scene, Bramwell also shared news of the upcoming bobcat trapping season in Indiana. The Indiana DNR is set to implement a regulated harvest of bobcats in 40 southern Indiana counties starting next year, after research revealed a sustainable population. The move comes as part of efforts to control the bobcat population, with an estimated 400 bobcats being killed on Indiana roads each year. Public comments on the proposed rules can be submitted online at IN.gov/nrc/rules/rulemaking-docket.

Finally, Bramwell reminded readers of the upcoming East Central Indiana Friends of the NRA annual banquet on September 29th at the Madison County Shrine Club. The event will feature dinner and a raffle, with all proceeds going to support shooting sports teams, gun ranges, and conservation clubs in Indiana.
