**New Delhi:** The government has reassured citizens that there will be no price hikes on essential commodities during the upcoming festive season. This announcement, made by Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra, comes amidst rising inflation concerns and provides much-needed relief to households.
Chopra stated that there is no anticipated spike in prices for essential commodities such as wheat, rice, sugar, and edible oils. The Ministry of Food Distribution and Consumer Affairs has emphasized that wheat prices will remain stable, with the government maintaining a reserve stock of 10 million tons and urging traders to refrain from price increases.
The government has also implemented measures to stabilize edible oil prices. Effective September 14, the basic customs duty on various edible oils was increased to protect domestic oilseed growers. However, 1.3 million tonnes of edible oil imported at zero duty remain in stock, which the industry has been instructed to sell at current prices.
Chopra highlighted the government’s efforts to control vital commodity prices, attributing it as an accomplishment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term in power.
This assurance of stable prices during the festive season will bring a sense of stability to consumers who rely on these commodities for everyday needs. The government’s measures to stabilize prices are expected to have a positive impact on household budgets and ensure a joyous festive season for all.
