Wed Sep 18 13:21:49 UTC 2024: ## Plymouth Nightclub Faces Licence Review Amidst Noise Complaints

Plymouth’s Club Inferno, located on Lockyer Street, is facing a potential licence review after numerous noise complaints from residents. Since its reopening in March 2023, the club has been accused of playing music so loud that it disrupts sleep and causes a range of problems for nearby residents, despite the installation of a noise-limiting device.

Complaints include persistent loud music, bass vibrations, and disruptive behavior from patrons outside the club. Residents describe hearing “screaming, shouting, crying, arguing, vomiting” and witnessing littering and smashed bottles. One resident reported the noise affecting their job, health, and relationship, while another described experiencing “physical and mental” consequences from the lack of sleep.

Plymouth’s Environmental Health Department has received numerous complaints and has requested the licence review “for the prevention of public nuisance.” The department has found evidence of music coming from Club Inferno during visits to the affected properties and highlighted the club’s repeated breaches of licence conditions.

The club’s management had previously attempted to address the noise concerns, including installing a noise-limiting device, but the complaints persist. A decision regarding the licence review will be made after representations from residents are received by October 9.

Club Inferno has been contacted for comment, but a response is yet to be received.
