Wed Sep 18 22:47:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Republican Officials Back Harris, Declare Trump Unfit for Presidency

**NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (Xinhua)** – In a significant move, over 100 former Republican officials and lawmakers have endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, while denouncing Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump as unfit to serve another term.

The group, including former officials who served under presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Trump himself, expressed their support for Harris in a letter released by her campaign. While acknowledging policy disagreements with the vice president, they emphasized that Harris possesses the necessary qualities to lead the country, a distinction they believe Trump lacks.

The letter accuses Trump of fostering chaos within the government, praising America’s enemies while undermining its allies, politicizing the military and disrespecting veterans, prioritizing personal interests over national ones, and ultimately betraying the nation’s values, democracy, and founding principles.

The signatories specifically condemned Trump’s role in inciting the January 6th attack on the Capitol, arguing that his actions constituted a violation of his oath of office and put the country at risk. The letter quotes former Vice President Mike Pence, stating, “Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States.”

Among the notable figures endorsing Harris are two former defense secretaries, Chuck Hagel and William S. Cohen; two former Central Intelligence Agency directors, Michael V. Hayden and William H. Webster; a former director of national intelligence, John D. Negroponte; and Robert B. Zoellick, former president of the World Bank. The letter also includes endorsements from eight former members of Congress.

This development follows the recent announcement by former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, Liz Cheney, a vocal critic of Trump, that they would be voting for Harris.
