Thu Sep 19 17:09:16 UTC 2024: ## Modi’s US Visit: Quad Summit, Bilateral Meetings, and No Confirmed Meeting with Trump

**New York, Sept. 19, 2024** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-day visit to the United States from September 21-23, attending the Quad summit in Wilmington and engaging in bilateral meetings in New York. While a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump has been rumored, the Indian government has confirmed no such meeting is currently scheduled.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that PM Modi will meet with U.S. President Joseph Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian PM Anthony Albanese at the Quad summit in Wilmington on September 21st. The summit will focus on Indo-Pacific initiatives and India will formally ratify the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) agreement, although India remains out of the trade pillar due to concerns over labor and human rights standards.

In New York, PM Modi will hold a series of bilateral meetings and engage with business leaders at a diaspora event. He will also address the UN Summit of the Future on September 23rd before departing for India.

While speculation surrounding a meeting with Donald Trump persists, Foreign Secretary Misri stated that “we first need to work our way through to fixing a meeting and then look at the issues,” adding that “there are a number of meetings we are trying to schedule, keeping the time available in mind.”

PM Modi’s visit is expected to include discussions on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, although details on any potential peace proposals remain “a work in progress,” according to Misri. He declined to confirm or deny meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, or Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Quad summit is anticipated to focus on China’s actions in the Indo-Pacific region, including its military activities and trade practices. PM Modi will also participate in a ‘Cancer Moonshot’ event in Wilmington, furthering collaboration between the U.S. and India in cancer research.
