**Gotham City, September 17, 2024** – HBO and Max have released the first official image of Mark Strong as Carmine “The Roman” Falcone in the highly anticipated “The Penguin” series. Strong takes over the role previously held by John Turturro in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” portraying the formidable crime lord who holds sway over Gotham’s underworld.
The image depicts a younger Falcone, hinting at potential flashbacks within the eight-episode series. “The Penguin” picks up days after the events of “The Batman,” with Gotham still reeling from the aftermath of the film’s climactic battle. Falcone’s death sets off a violent power struggle between several characters, including Colin Farrell’s Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, and Clancy Brown’s Salvatore Maroni.
“The Penguin” features an impressive ensemble cast, including Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, Theo Rossi, and David H. Holmes. Craig Zobel (“Mare of Easttown”) directs the first two episodes and serves as executive producer. Lauren LeFranc is the showrunner and penned the series.
The highly anticipated series premieres this Thursday, September 19th, at 9pm ET on Max. Subsequent episodes will air Sundays from September 29th at the same time.
“The most powerful family in Gotham will gather this week to honor the recently passed Carmine Falcone,” teased the official Twitter account of “The Penguin.”
