Wed Sep 18 13:55:00 UTC 2024: ## “Emotional Drivers” Behind Unnecessary Purchases: Local Pastor Reflects on Bike Craving

Brattleboro, VT – Local pastor Jon Heydenreich has shared his personal struggle with the “emotional driver” behind unnecessary purchases, using his recent desire for a new bike as an example. While acknowledging he doesn’t “need” another bike, Heydenreich confessed his desire for one is driven by an emotional craving.

“I tried to justify the purchase with all these rational reasons,” Heydenreich said, “but the truth is, most of them were weak. It’s a familiar feeling, like a permanent case of poison ivy – I just have to scratch.”

Heydenreich’s wife, who doesn’t share his passion for bikes, compared the feeling to her own food cravings. “I know I’m not hungry,” she admitted, “but when that emotional driver kicks in, I just want to eat.”

Heydenreich believes this “emotional driver” is common in many areas of life, using fashion as another example. “Our clothes may be perfectly fine,” he explained, “but we still chase the latest trends. We might want to fit in, or impress others. There are likely many reasons, but the key is that we have this emotional or psychological need.”

He encourages readers to be mindful of these drivers. “We may not be as rational as we think,” Heydenreich warns. “It’s important to recognize when our desires are driven by emotions, rather than true need.”
