**Algood, TN** – A Cookeville man was arrested on Saturday, September 14th, for allegedly stealing a U-Haul truck and living out of it. Hunter Lynn Dailey, 24, was apprehended by Algood Police Department officers after being identified driving the stolen truck.
Sgt. John BonneCarrere, who initiated the arrest, received a report from Putnam County Dispatch describing the stolen U-Haul as having a spider painted on the side. He spotted the vehicle on Highway 111 and pulled Dailey over.
During the arrest, Dailey claimed that he had borrowed the truck from his girlfriend on September 6th. However, the truck was due back on September 7th, and Dailey admitted that he was not aware of the return date. The U-Haul’s accompanying car hauler, used to transport Dailey’s personal vehicle, was recovered earlier in Overton County.
A search of the vehicle revealed numerous items, including clothing, bedding, a fan, a chest of drawers, cooking supplies, brass knuckles, and various food items, leading officers to believe Dailey was living in the truck.
The search also uncovered drug paraphernalia, including a plastic vial with white powdery residue and a straw, and two suspected marijuana grinders.
Dailey was charged with theft of property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Putnam County Jail on a $5,800 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 21st.
