Thu Sep 19 06:28:20 UTC 2024: ## India Stumble Early, Then Recover to 88/3 at Lunch in Chennai Test
**Chennai:** India got off to a shaky start on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, losing three early wickets before a strong recovery by Yashasvi Jaiswal (37*) and Rishabh Pant (33*) saw the hosts reach 88/3 at lunch.
Bangladesh, buoyed by their recent series win against Pakistan, started aggressively with Hasan Mahmud claiming the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6), all caught behind by Litton Das.
The visitors had India reeling at 34/3 after 9.2 overs, but Jaiswal and Pant steadied the ship with a crucial 54-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Jaiswal, in particular, looked confident, striking two boundaries off Mehidy Hasan Miraz and bringing up his 50 for India with a four off Hasan Mahmud.
Pant, meanwhile, survived a tough dropped catch at slip by Shadman Islam, before also contributing a couple of fours.
The first hour of the match clearly belonged to Bangladesh, who exploited the early seam movement and kept India on the back foot. However, the hosts managed to turn things around before lunch, giving themselves a platform to build on in the second session.
**Bangladesh will be looking to exploit the bounce and turn on offer as the pitch develops, while India will be hoping for their middle order to take charge and build a strong score.**
The second session will be crucial for both teams as they look to gain an early advantage in this crucial series.
