Thu Sep 19 11:08:58 UTC 2024: ## India Dominate Day 1 of Chennai Test, Bangladesh Bowlers Struggle
**Chennai, India:** India took control on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, posting a score of 304/6 at stumps. The home side, however, had to overcome a shaky start, losing three early wickets to the impressive Hasan Mahmud.
Mahmud, the Bangladeshi paceman, dismissed Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) in quick succession, leaving India reeling at 28/3. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) steadied the ship with a crucial 54-run partnership.
Jaiswal, in particular, looked in fine form, striking his half-century with a boundary off a full toss from Nahiid Rana.
After lunch, the Indian middle order faltered again, losing KL Rahul (16) and Pant, but the experienced duo of Ravichandran Ashwin (88*) and Ravindra Jadeja (67*) came to the rescue, stitching a crucial 162-run partnership.
Ashwin, who is known for his astute batting skills, reached his half-century, while Jadeja struck a quickfire fifty. Their resilience ultimately proved crucial in guiding India to a strong total on a pitch that offered some assistance to the bowlers.
While Mahmud was the standout performer for Bangladesh, claiming four wickets, the other Bangladeshi bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, particularly in the latter half of the day.
The second day promises to be an interesting battle as Bangladesh will look to bounce back with the bat and try to restrict India’s lead.
