Thu Sep 19 15:07:44 UTC 2024: ## Ashwin and Jadeja’s Century Stand Rescues India in Chennai Test

**Chennai, India:** Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja pulled India back from the brink with an incredible 195-run partnership on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. The duo’s resilience overshadowed a shaky start for the Indian team, who were struggling at 34/3 and later 144/6.

Ashwin, batting at number eight, smashed a century, ending the day unbeaten on 102. Jadeja, batting at number seven, remained not out on 86. Their partnership was crucial as it helped India recover from the early loss of key batsmen like Rohit Sharma (6 runs) and Virat Kohli (8 runs).

This partnership also broke a long-standing record, surpassing the 617-run partnership between Kapil Dev and Syed Kirmani for India in home tests. Ashwin and Jadeja have now accumulated over 500 runs together in 14 Tests, placing them second on the list of highest partnerships for India in home Tests by batsmen at number seven or below.

The first day of the Test saw a flurry of wickets early on, with Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud dismissing three Indian batsmen, including Shubman Gill for a duck. However, Ashwin and Jadeja’s heroic stand turned the tide, proving their crucial contribution to India’s strong comeback.

The first day ended with India reaching 339/6, leaving Bangladesh with a challenging task ahead. Ashwin and Jadeja will be looking to continue their brilliant partnership on Day 2 and secure a comfortable lead for India.
