Thu Sep 19 15:07:44 UTC 2024: ## Ashwin Shines with Bat, Hits Century in IND vs BAN 1st Test

**Chennai, India:** Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin turned back the clock, smashing a brilliant century on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. This is Ashwin’s sixth Test century, coming 1312 days after his last ton against England in 2021.

The veteran, known for his prowess with the ball, demonstrated his batting skills at the crucial juncture, with India’s top order struggling. With the team struggling at 123/6, Ashwin stepped up to the plate, taking on the Bangladeshi bowlers and scoring a majestic 100 runs off just 58 balls.

Ashwin, batting at number 8, played a vital role in rescuing India from a precarious position, sharing a 150-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja. His innings came as a welcome surprise, especially after the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul failed to make a mark.

This century marks Ashwin’s second at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, adding to his impressive record. His first Test century came in 2011 against the West Indies. He has since gone on to score centuries against the same opposition in 2013 and 2016, proving his capabilities as a batsman beyond doubt.

The Indian team will be hoping Ashwin’s magnificent innings can provide the much-needed momentum to push for a win in the first Test.
