Thu Sep 19 11:08:15 UTC 2024: ## Pant’s Early Dismissal Dents India’s Fightback in First Test Against Bangladesh

**Chennai, India:** India’s hopes for a strong start in the first Test against Bangladesh were dealt a blow when star batsman Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 39 runs shortly after the lunch break on Day 1. Pant, who was leading a fightback after early wickets, threw his wicket away with a loose shot, much to the disappointment of Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and fans alike.

After a controlled and aggressive innings, Pant edged a delivery from Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud to wicketkeeper Litton Das. This dismissal, occurring just after Pant had hit a boundary in the previous over, visibly frustrated the batsman as he trudged back to the pavilion.

Pant’s departure left India reeling at 96 for 4, despite having recovered somewhat from an early wobble. The team had been rattled by the accuracy and movement of Hasan Mahmud, who had already dismissed Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in the first session.

The 24-year-old Mahmud, who was looking to become the first Bangladesh bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match in India, continued to pose a threat to the Indian batting lineup. With Pant’s dismissal, Bangladesh gained a significant advantage, as the hosts struggled to build a substantial lead in the first innings.
