Wed Sep 18 01:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Munster Coach Denies Rift with Former Captain Peter O’Mahony

Munster head coach Graham Rowntree has refuted rumors of a falling out with former captain Peter O’Mahony, emphasizing that their relationship remained professional throughout O’Mahony’s contract negotiations with the province.

Speculation of a rift arose last season when O’Mahony, 34, unexpectedly stepped down as captain in November amidst tense contract negotiations. The situation further fueled rumors when O’Mahony wasn’t retained on his IRFU deal, eventually signing a one-year provincial deal.

Rowntree addressed the issue directly, stating, “We didn’t fall out. I didn’t raise my voice once,” emphasizing the professional nature of the contract discussions. He acknowledged the complexity of the situation but highlighted that they ultimately reached an agreement.

Meanwhile, Tadhg Beirne has been confirmed as the captain for the upcoming season after successfully leading the team in key games last year. Rowntree praised Beirne’s leadership, highlighting his world-class abilities and positive influence on the team.

Additionally, Simon Easterby will step in as Ireland coach during the upcoming Six Nations and the summer tour to Georgia and Romania while Andy Farrell is unavailable.
