With the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between India and Australia set to begin on November 22nd, Australian players have weighed in on who they believe will be India’s next generational superstar.

The battle for the title of “next big thing” seems to be between young openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood have opted for Jaiswal, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey and opener Travis Head have shown their support for Gill.

The upcoming series, which will feature five matches, promises to be a thrilling affair, with both teams boasting formidable talent. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, excited for the series, highlighted the potential clash of titans between Indian legend Virat Kohli and Australian star Steve Smith.

“I think the way that the two superstar batters, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, probably head-to-head. Seeing how their dominance I suppose is asserted on the series and how much of an influence that has on who takes home the Border Gavaskar Trophy,” Maxwell told Star Sports. “One of those two is going to make a lot of runs, if not both of them, and it’s going to be pretty exciting to watch the two of the finest players of our generation go head-to-head.”

The upcoming series will be a rematch of the 2023 World Test Championship final, where Australia emerged victorious. India, however, won the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 2-1 in 2023.

With both teams eager to prove their mettle, the upcoming series is sure to be a captivating contest.
