Electronic Arts has confirmed that the next installment in the Battlefield series will launch in early 2025 and feature a return to the modern-day setting that defined the franchise.
Following the lukewarm reception of Battlefield 2049, which featured a futuristic setting, EA is taking the franchise back to its roots. Inspired by the beloved Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, the upcoming game will see the return of classic 64-player maps and intense action.
“If you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it’s that Battlefield 3 [and] Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern,” said Battlefield head Vince Zampella. “And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well.”
To ensure a smooth launch and address community feedback early on, EA will implement a community testing program in early 2025, allowing players to experience an early build of the game. The development team behind the next Battlefield is the largest in franchise history, and the return to classic gameplay elements, combined with community involvement, is generating considerable excitement among fans.
With the return to modern warfare and the promise of a robust community testing phase, the next Battlefield installment has the potential to recapture the glory of its predecessors and re-establish itself as a leading force in the first-person shooter genre.
