Thu Sep 19 06:26:58 UTC 2024: ## Diamond League Boosts Prize Money to Record $9 Million in 2025

The Diamond League, the premier track and field series, is set to increase its prize money to a record-breaking $9 million in 2025. This represents a nearly 33% increase from the payouts made during the 2021-2024 period, which were impacted by the pandemic.

Athletes will receive a total of $18 million, with top performers also receiving promotional fees. Notably, male and female athletes will be paid equally, highlighting the league’s commitment to gender equity.

The increased investment extends beyond prize money, with the Diamond League also committing to enhanced support for athletes through improved travel, accommodation, medical, and physiotherapy services.

Each of the 14 Diamond League meets in the 2025 regular season, commencing in April, will offer $500,000 in prize money. The Finals in August will have a larger purse of $2.24 million. Individual disciplines will earn between $30,000 and $50,000 at regular meets, rising to $60,000 to $100,000 at the Finals.

Diamond League CEO Petr Stastny emphasized the importance of rewarding athletes while ensuring the series’ long-term sustainability. “We remain committed to rewarding the athletes more whilst, at the same time, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the series,” he stated.

This move comes as World Athletics has begun offering Olympic champions $50,000 in prize money, breaking a long-standing tradition. It also marks a response to the emergence of rival events such as Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track, which will offer a $12.6 million prize purse in 2025.
