Wed Sep 18 03:42:28 UTC 2024: ## Aspinall Ready to Step Up if Jones-Miocic Heavyweight Title Fight Goes Awry at UFC 309

**LAS VEGAS** – UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall will be the backup fighter for the highly anticipated UFC 309 main event, where reigning champion Jon Jones will defend his title against challenger Stipe Miocic.

The fight, initially slated for November 2023, was pushed back a year due to an injury to Jones. In the interim, Aspinall rose through the ranks, securing an interim title with a victory over Serghei Pavlovich and defending it against Curtis Blaydes in July. Both fights were finished within the first round, demonstrating his dominant form.

While Jones has hinted that this fight against Miocic will be his last, White remains unsure if the champion will hang up his gloves after the fight. “We’ll see how this fight plays out, and then we’ll go from there,” White said.

UFC 309 is scheduled for November 16th at Madison Square Garden in New York. Should Aspinall be called upon, it would end a lengthy wait for the British heavyweight, who has consistently proven himself ready for a shot at the title.
