Thu Sep 19 05:47:00 UTC 2024: ## Burns Eyes Long-Term Future at Munster Despite One-Year Deal

**Limerick, Ireland** – Billy Burns, the newly-signed Irish fly-half, has expressed a desire to establish long-term roots at Munster Rugby despite only signing a one-year contract. Despite turning 30 in June and facing a career crossroads after leaving Ulster, Burns is confident in his ability to contribute to the province and is already feeling at home.

Head Coach Graham Rowntree revealed that he’s impressed by Burns’ pre-season performances and is open to extending his stay beyond the initial one-year deal. While the one-year contract was initially chosen to allow his family to settle in, Burns insists that it won’t affect his commitment or training intensity.

“I hope to stay here for a long time,” said Burns. “The one-year contract was more for my family to settle, but I back myself to earn another contract and stay longer.”

Burns, who is set to make his Munster debut at Thomond Park this weekend, is embracing the new environment and the challenge of competing for the number 10 jersey. He believes the change has given him a “new lease of life” and that the challenge of proving himself has pushed him outside his comfort zone.

“I was very nervous coming in, but there’s something about that which brings the best out of me,” he admitted.

Burns acknowledged the competition from returning Irish internationals like Jack Crowley but remains confident that his best rugby is still ahead of him. “I’m always hungry to learn and get better,” he stated. “I want to play out-half for Munster this year and that means outperforming the number one fly-half in Ireland.”

Burns is focused on continuous improvement and has learned from past experiences to prioritize his physical wellbeing and consistency. He’s also benefiting from the guidance of Munster’s coaching staff, who have clear plans for his development.

The former Ulster player’s enthusiasm and determination suggest that he’s looking to make a significant impact at Munster, potentially setting the stage for a long and successful career in red.
