Thu Sep 19 05:27:00 UTC 2024: ## National Landscapes Project to Inspire Art Inspired by Nature
**Bristol, UK -** A £2 million national art project, “Nature Calling,” is set to inspire people to connect with landscapes and improve their well-being. The initiative, launched by the National Landscapes team, will see communities across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland co-create artworks inspired by 34 National Landscapes.
The project encourages writers to start the creative process with words, crafting poems, songs, prose, or even rap. These words will then be used as inspiration for local communities to work with artists to co-create their final pieces, which could include dance, theatre, installations, or music. The artworks will be on public display between May and October 2025.
Tim Haselden, project development officer for the Mendip Hills National Landscape Team, expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the opportunity to connect communities with their local landscapes.
John Watkins, chief executive of National Landscapes, stated, “Working with art and artists is a means of discovering and appreciating a richer understanding of what is important and special in these landscapes. In turn, this art can influence those whose voice and power dominates the sector, challenging norms, tropes, and ways of working.”
The project is funded by Arts Council England, the Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs, and National Landscapes in England.
Darren Henley, chief executive at Arts Council England, emphasized the historical connection between art and nature: “Throughout time, our greatest artists have been inspired by England’s wonderful landscape. Now, we’re supporting a new generation of artists to bring to life their own awe-inspiring work in response to our natural environment.”
