**Kolkata, India -** Defending Indian Super League (ISL) champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Tajikistan’s Ravshan Kulob in their Group A opener of the AFC Champions League 2 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Wednesday.
Despite creating numerous chances, both teams failed to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving the spoils shared in the tightly contested match.
The first half saw a cautious approach from both sides, with the first real threat arriving in the 27th minute when Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith pulled off a crucial save to deny Ravshan Kulob the lead.
The second half saw the visitors apply early pressure, forcing a strong block from Anirudh Thapa to prevent a breakthrough. Mohun Bagan eventually settled into the game and had their own chances, with Jason Cummings’ chipped effort being expertly saved in the 74th minute.
The Mariners came closest to scoring in the closing stages. In the 88th minute, Liston Colaco missed a golden opportunity, firing his shot wide of the target. Dimitri Petratos also saw his attempt saved in the second minute of stoppage time.
Despite the missed chances, Mohun Bagan will be looking to take the positives from a tough opening encounter. They face Tractor SC away in their next ACL2 match, before returning to ISL action with a home game against NorthEast United FC on Monday.
