Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe on Tuesday morning recognized three local athletes for their outstanding achievements in recent competitions. Chess players Khana Kathrine Ventolero and Cyreine Jean Borce were honored for winning medals at the 22nd ASEAN Age-Group Chess Championships in Vientiane, Laos. Ventolero and Borce, who were part of the Philippine team that secured silver in the Rapid Chess – Girls 16 category, were also presented with certificates of recognition. Ventolero additionally earned a bronze medal in the standard chess – girls 10 category.
The third athlete, Samuel Lindayan, was celebrated for his victory in the male category of the 14th Bataan Death March 102 Ultra Marathon Championships, held in Mariveles, Bataan from Sept. 7 to 8.
Mayor Dalipe lauded the athletes, highlighting their dedication and sportsmanship. He expressed pride in their accomplishments and emphasized their role in inspiring the city’s youth and fostering a strong sports development program.
The athletes were accompanied by their coach, Carlo Mark Florendo, during the recognition ceremony at the Mayor’s Office. The presentation was facilitated by City Sports Director Dr. Cecil Atilano and staff.
