Wed Sep 18 03:22:28 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Marlena Set to Become Delhi’s New Chief Minister

In a surprising turn of events, Atishi Marlena, a prominent AAP leader, is set to take over as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Current CM Arvind Kejriwal will be stepping down from his post today, proposing Atishi’s name for the top position, as reported by India Today.

Kejriwal’s resignation comes two days after his initial announcement on September 15th. He is expected to formally resign at 4:30 pm after a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

While Kailash Gahlot, a senior AAP leader, was also considered for the position, Atishi emerged as the frontrunner. This appointment marks a significant shift in the party’s leadership, with no Deputy Chief Minister to be appointed this time.

Atishi, known for her academic background and political activism, has steadily climbed the ranks within the AAP. She holds a Masters in History from Oxford University and was a Rhodes Scholar at Magdalen College.

Her political career began in 2013 when she joined AAP and played a key role in policy formulation, drawing from her experiences in the Anti-Corruption Movement. She gained further prominence during the Jal Satyagraha in Madhya Pradesh, where she supported fellow AAP leader Alok Agarwal.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she contested from East Delhi but suffered a defeat. However, she emerged victorious in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections from the Kalkaji constituency, securing a cabinet post.

Atishi’s appointment as Chief Minister marks a significant milestone in her political journey and signals a new chapter for the AAP in Delhi.
