ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers overcame a shaky start from Nathan Eovaldi and rallied for a 13-8 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night.
Wyatt Langford led the offensive charge for the Rangers, hitting a home run and two doubles. Jonah Heim, who had struggled mightily in September, delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning to break a 7-7 tie and spark the Rangers’ comeback. Heim finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Eovaldi, a key contributor to the Rangers’ World Series run, had his worst start of the year, giving up 11 hits and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings. However, the Rangers’ offense came alive, scoring five unearned runs in the fourth inning thanks to a throwing error by Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt.
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, were led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who had three hits including a double. Bo Bichette returned from a calf injury and went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Despite Eovaldi’s struggles, Matt Festa earned the win for the Rangers, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Rangers will look to continue their momentum Wednesday night with Chad Bradford on the mound, while the Blue Jays will counter with Bowden Francis. Francis is looking to overcome the heartbreak of two near no-hitters that were broken up in the ninth inning this season.
