**QUETTA:** Balochistan’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Moazzam Jah Ansari, has directed officials to accelerate the implementation of the second phase of the Safe City project, aiming to bolster security and surveillance in Quetta. This expansion will see a significant increase in the number of surveillance cameras across the city.
The IGP emphasized that the Safe City project, employing modern technology, prioritizes peace and security. However, he acknowledged the need for further enhancements to optimize the project’s effectiveness in supporting law enforcement agencies.
During a meeting on Monday, the IGP was briefed on the project’s progress and challenges. The Safe City Project Director highlighted the recurring disruptions caused by ongoing development projects in various parts of Quetta, which often result in damage to the project’s fiber optic cables, impacting monitoring capabilities.
Responding to these concerns, the IGP instructed officials to prioritize the immediate reactivation of any disrupted camera feeds. Furthermore, he directed the expansion of coverage to include blind spots and high-crime areas, ensuring the project meets its full potential.
To further enhance the project’s effectiveness, the IGP directed the integration of surveillance feeds and emergency services with the police’s communication systems. He also stressed the importance of activating real-time monitoring systems utilizing artificial intelligence. These measures aim to significantly enhance the project’s efficiency and contribute to a safer Quetta.
