Sarah Paulson, nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress for her role in *Mr. and Mrs. Smith*, gushed about her support for girlfriend Holland Taylor, who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress for *The Morning Show* at the 2024 Emmys.
Paulson, known for her roles in *American Horror Story*, expressed her pride in Taylor’s nomination, stating, “Holland has been my absolute rock and has been with me in all of these things for many years and tonight I’m the girl that gets to hold her purse.” While Paulson received her nomination at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier in the week, Taylor was the one in the spotlight on the main Emmys night.
Despite missing out on her own award, which went to Michaela Coel for her guest appearance in *Mr. and Mrs. Smith*, Paulson beamed with joy for Taylor. Taylor, in turn, acknowledged Paulson’s achievements, noting, “Both nine, I’ve had much longer to accomplish that.”
Taylor, however, lost the Outstanding Supporting Actress award to Elizabeth Debecki for her role in *The Crown*. Despite the loss, Taylor found the experience of playing her character in *The Morning Show* deeply rewarding, especially a challenging scene that dealt with racial issues.
“It was kind of meta,” Taylor said. “There I am in a situation that had a racial question, that was a very slippery one—and here she is the interviewer, and here I am, the person who made the horrible gaffe, and we have to talk it through. It was really, really painful. I’m an elderly white lady, she’s a person of color who’s a journalist. We loved it, but we were clinging to each other.”
Throughout the night, Paulson and Taylor were inseparable, showcasing their unwavering support and affection for each other. The pair was just one of several couples who made the Emmys a date night, highlighting the event’s enduring appeal as a celebration of both talent and love.
