Wed Sep 18 04:29:00 UTC 2024: ## Rat Catcher Shares Shocking Tales of Rodent Encounters

**Wakefield, West Yorkshire** – Kieran Sampler, a professional rat catcher with an estimated 65,000 kills under his belt, has shared some truly unsettling tales from his line of work. Sampler, who runs Vermicure Pest Control in South and West Yorkshire, recounted a particularly shocking incident where a woman discovered a rat hiding in her toilet while she was using it.

The rat had climbed up the drain and was found submerged in the toilet bowl, prompting a panicked call to Sampler. “It was pretty bad,” he said. “She was screaming – imagine being on the toilet and something brushes against you.”

Sampler’s work often involves dealing with rodents in unexpected places, from beneath beds and inside furniture to within the walls of homes. He even described an instance where a family trapped a rat in their bedroom after their cat brought it in during the night.

“I’ve seen it all,” he said. “Rats are incredibly resourceful and can get into the tightest spaces.”

To combat the increasing rodent problem, Sampler, who prefers humane methods of extermination, trains his two Lakeland Terriers, Poppy and Penny, to locate and kill the rats. He believes this approach is more humane than using poison and is far more efficient.

With winter approaching, Sampler is warning residents to be extra vigilant. He recommends cutting back garden foliage, “rat-proofing” decking, and picking up dog waste regularly to prevent rodents from making their way onto properties. He also suggests limiting bird feeders, as these can attract rodents.

“This winter is going to be bad,” he said. “Rats love foliage and will find any way to get inside for warmth.”

Sampler’s experiences highlight the growing problem of rat infestations, which can be detrimental to both health and property. By taking preventative measures and seeking professional help when necessary, residents can help minimize the risk of encountering these unwanted pests.
