Wed Sep 18 05:06:47 UTC 2024: ## London Farm Warns Against Abandoning Pets After Fox Attack

**Rotherhithe, London:** Surrey Docks Farm in Rotherhithe is urging Londoners to refrain from abandoning their pets at the farm after a recent incident involving a fox attack on an animal left in a bag.

The farm reported on Instagram that a travel bag containing an animal was left at their gate on Monday evening around 10:30pm. CCTV footage captured a fox sniffing the bag shortly after, and within ten minutes, the foxes returned, knocked the bag over, and entered.

The following morning, staff discovered the bag with a note that read “please help us,” but the animal was gone. Only sawdust, food, and a carrot remained inside.

The farm emphasized that they are not a rehoming center and pleaded with pet owners to contact a rescue center or the RSPCA if they need to rehome their animals. This incident follows other cases of abandoned pets in London, including a guinea pig left at Canning Town Tube station and a hamster left on a bus.

Animal rehoming charities in London have reported an overwhelming surge in surrendered pets, with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home citing the cost of living as a contributing factor.

An RSPCA spokesperson condemned the abandonment of animals, noting that abandonment calls to the RSPCA were at a three-year high last winter. The spokesperson urged owners struggling to care for their pets to seek help from the RSPCA website or phone line, emphasizing the long-term commitment involved in pet ownership.
