Wed Sep 18 05:06:46 UTC 2024: ## Yankees Pummel Mariners, Soto Reaches 200 Home Runs
**Seattle, WA** – The New York Yankees dominated the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night, winning 11-2 in the opener of a three-game series. The victory extended the Yankees’ lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East to four games.
Juan Soto hit his 40th homer of the season and the 200th of his career in the fourth inning, adding two runs to the Yankees’ lead. The home run also marked Soto’s first in every major league stadium. Aaron Judge drove in four runs, including a two-run double in the first inning that kickstarted the Yankees’ offensive barrage. Jasson Dominguez also added a homer for the Yankees.
Luis Gil pitched five strong innings for the Yankees, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five. Bryan Woo, who entered the game with a 5-0 record and 1.66 ERA at home this season, struggled against the Yankees, giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The Mariners received a solo homer from Jorge Polanco in the second inning and another from Luke Raley in the eighth, but it was not enough to overcome the Yankees’ offensive onslaught.
The Mariners fell three games back in the AL wild-card race.
The two teams will face off again on Wednesday for the second game of the series.
