Wed Sep 18 05:07:00 UTC 2024: ## Arsonist Targets Bellrock Community, Leaving 30 Displaced

**Kingston, Jamaica** – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has vowed to bring the full weight of the law down on an arsonist responsible for setting fire to seven homes in the Bellrock community of St. Andrew, displacing over 30 people, including more than 10 children.

The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, is believed to have been sparked by a disgruntled ex-boyfriend who was angered by the end of a relationship with one of the fire victims. The suspect, who has been identified as a person of interest in other crimes, is currently on the run and police are urging him to turn himself in.

“Bellrock is a community I am very proud of,” said Prime Minister Holness, who visited the community following the incident. “For one incensed young man to destroy the lives of eight families and what they have worked so hard to build must face the full force of the law.”

Superintendent Damion Manderson, commanding officer of the St Andrew South Police Division, confirmed the fire stemmed from a domestic dispute that escalated tragically. “Some 30 citizens of this community are without a place of comfort due to the fire,” he stated. “We are talking about children, their school supplies all gone.”

One female victim, who recounted the terrifying ordeal, described the fire as a raging bull, leaving residents scrambling for safety. “We could hardly find anywhere to escape,” she said. “The girl was in a relationship with the guy; I don’t know what went down with them, but I only see him come back for his stuff then burned them.”

The Government has provided some initial relief to the displaced residents, offering bedding and other essential items, but the Prime Minister has pledged to work towards long-term solutions, including rebuilding homes for the affected families.

Police are actively investigating the incident and seeking the public’s assistance in locating the arsonist.
