**Los Angeles, CA -** Renowned filmmaker James Cameron, known for his blockbuster hits like *Titanic* and *Avatar*, has announced his next project: a film based on the true story of Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a man who survived both atomic bombings in Japan.
Cameron will draw inspiration from Charles Pellegrino’s upcoming historical book *Ghosts of Hiroshima* and his previous non-fiction work, *The Last Train From Hiroshima*. The film will depict Yamaguchi’s harrowing experience, beginning with his survival of the Hiroshima bombing, his journey to Nagasaki, and his subsequent survival of the second nuclear explosion.
Cameron, who previously collaborated with Pellegrino as a science consultant on *Titanic* and *Avatar*, has been deeply moved by Yamaguchi’s story. He personally met Yamaguchi shortly before his death and feels compelled to share this important historical narrative with the world.
“It’s a subject I’ve wanted to do a film about for years,” Cameron told Deadline. “I met Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a survivor of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, just days before he died. He was handing the baton of his personal story to us, so I have to do it. I can’t turn away from it.”
*The Last Train From Hiroshima* will utilize both eyewitness accounts from survivors and recent discoveries in forensic archaeology to provide a powerful and emotionally resonant portrayal of the impact of the atomic bombs. Production is expected to begin shortly after Cameron completes work on the upcoming *Avatar* sequel.
