**New Delhi:** India’s ace off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, is poised to add to his impressive Test record in the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. The veteran is aiming to break several records, solidifying his status as a true legend of the longest format.
Ashwin is just 22 wickets away from surpassing Anil Kumble’s record for most Test wickets at home. He currently sits at 454, while Kumble boasts 476 wickets. The series could also see him surpass Zaheer Khan’s tally of 31 wickets against Bangladesh, as he currently stands at 23 scalps.
In the World Test Championship (WTC), Ashwin is already tied with Nathan Lyon for the most five-wicket hauls with 10. Another five-for in the series would make him the sole leader. Additionally, he needs only 14 wickets to surpass Lyon’s record of 187 WTC wickets, potentially claiming the top spot in this cycle.
The current WTC 2023-25 leader, Josh Hazlewood, has 51 wickets. Ashwin requires just 10 more to overtake the Australian paceman in the current cycle.
With a potent bowling attack and a series of exciting records within reach, Ashwin’s performance against Bangladesh will undoubtedly be one of the key talking points of the series.
