**BEIJING, Sept. 18, 2024** – Foton Motor and ZF Group have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to introduce advanced commercial vehicle hybrid drive systems into the Chinese market. The move aims to support the country’s transition to new energy vehicles and meet the diverse needs of the logistics and fleet industries.
The partnership, announced at the 2024 Hannover International Commercial Vehicles Show, builds upon the successful collaboration between the two companies on the TraXon commercial vehicle automatic transmission and electric drive project. Under the agreement, ZF Foton Automatic Transmission (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd. will receive exclusive technology license in China and be responsible for the production and manufacturing of the innovative ZF TraXon 2 Hybrid system.
The ZF TraXon 2 Hybrid system combines the performance of a traditional internal combustion engine with the efficiency of a hybrid system. This integration offers logistics companies and fleet operators significant economic benefits. The technology is expected to be the first of its kind to achieve mass production in the Chinese market by 2026.
“This cooperation between ZF and Foton Motor allows us to leverage our respective resources and expertise to accelerate the development of our hybrid solutions,” said Professor Dr. Peter Laier, Member of the Management Board of ZF Group and Head of ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions. “This partnership will quickly and economically bring these solutions to the Chinese and global markets.”
“Foton Motor is committed to developing green and low-carbon new energy technologies,” stated Chang Rui, Chairman of Foton Motor. “The hybrid system is a key strategy for the development of the global commercial vehicle new energy industry, and this agreement marks another significant step forward in our collaboration with ZF in new energy and globalization.”
Foton Motor is actively pursuing a three-pronged approach to new energy transformation, focusing on pure electric, hybrid, and fuel cell technologies. The introduction of ZF’s TraXon 2 Hybrid system not only enhances Foton Motor’s hybrid technology and product portfolio, but also strengthens its position in the heavy-duty commercial vehicle hybrid sector.
