**Umuahia, Abia State** – The Abia State Government has reiterated that the 2024/2025 academic session will officially commence on September 23rd, 2024. This directive was issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a briefing for journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
Kanu expressed concern over reports of some schools resuming their academic sessions ahead of the designated date, despite the government’s clear instructions. He warned that principals who disregarded the directive and allowed early resumption would face sanctions.
“The government is committed to reforming the education sector and establishing a strong regulatory framework,” Kanu stated. “We will not tolerate any deviation from the set schedule.”
The commissioner also provided updates on the ongoing recovery of schools from private individuals and organizations. He urged communities, traditional rulers, and youths to actively participate in protecting government properties within their localities.
“It’s unacceptable for individuals to undermine public infrastructure,” he stressed. “The government is investing heavily in education, and we expect everyone to be responsible for safeguarding these investments.”
The Abia State Government remains committed to ensuring a smooth and efficient educational system within the state, with September 23rd, 2024, marked as the official resumption date for all schools.
