Tue Sep 17 04:12:33 UTC 2024: ## Jewish Group Calls for Increased Security Measures in Canada Amidst Rising Terror Threats

**Toronto, Canada** – The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) has issued a formal request to the Canadian government, calling for heightened security measures to protect Jewish citizens from the escalating threat posed by Islamist terror groups. The organization cited a recent surge in attacks and radicalization within Canada, arguing that Jewish communities are facing an unprecedented level of danger.

CIJA President and CEO Shimon Koffler Fogel stated, “The Jewish community in Canada faces an unprecedented and growing threat from extremists emboldened by radical ideologies. Recent arrests have underscored the need for the Canadian government to act decisively to stop the overt pattern of radicalization within our own borders.”

The organization’s demands include:

* **Classifying Samidoun – Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network – as a terrorist entity:** CIJA alleges Samidoun has ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a designated terrorist group.
* **Criminalizing the display of symbols glorifying terrorism:** This includes imagery associated with Nazi groups, Hezbollah, Hamas, PFLP, Three Percenters, and ISIS.
* **Reassessing the Gazan Visa Security Process:** CIJA acknowledges the importance of humanitarian efforts but urges the government to thoroughly vet potential immigrants from Gaza for ties to Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The organization points to a string of recent incidents that have heightened anxieties within the Jewish community. These include the arrest of a father and son linked to ISIS who were planning an attack in Toronto, an Alberta man apprehended in Israel after attempting to attack border police, and the arrest of a Pakistani national in Canada who planned an attack on the Jewish community in New York.

CIJA also referenced a poll conducted by the organization, which revealed that a significant majority of Canadian Jews are concerned about antisemitism and believe that both the federal government and local police should be doing more to combat it.

Fogel concluded, “Canada is in the middle of an extremism crisis – one that puts Canadian lives in danger. Stopping radicalization and the normalization of extremist ideology should be the priority for Parliament for this coming session. We call on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to enhance security measures… The safety of all Canadians, especially vulnerable communities like ours, must remain a top priority.”
