**Chennai:** With the World Test Championship final looming next year, India is looking to kick off its second half of the season with a win, but a determined Bangladesh stands in their way. The two teams will clash in a two-match Test series, starting Thursday in Chennai.
India, currently topping the rankings, is on track for its third consecutive title clash. Bangladesh, however, is also in strong form, having recently won a series away against Pakistan and holding the fourth spot in the rankings. Despite India’s undefeated record in their last 12 Tests against Bangladesh, the upcoming series promises to be a challenging one.
India captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged the difficulties of returning to Test cricket after a long break, but expressed confidence in his team’s experience. “It’s always challenging, but the positive is that many players are experienced,” he said during the pre-match press conference.
While the team has been preparing intensely in the nets despite the recent unseasonal heat, Sharma stressed that the focus is on India’s game plan, not on Bangladesh’s recent successes. “Every team wants to beat India, but our job is to think about how to win the matches,” he added.
Both teams have been training on red soil wickets, but Tuesday’s practice session saw them switch to a black soil pitch. The first Test in Chennai is expected to feature a red soil pitch, which, if utilized effectively, could favor the bowlers.
With a packed schedule ahead, including series against New Zealand and Australia, India is prioritizing workload management. “We want our best players to participate in every game, but that’s not feasible given the amount of cricket,” acknowledged Sharma. The team is strategically planning to ensure the best players are available for the most crucial matches.
