**Gandhinagar, India:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced India’s commitment to a future powered by solar, wind, nuclear, and hydro energy. Speaking at the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST) in Gandhinagar, Modi emphasized the importance of transitioning away from fossil fuels to secure India’s energy future.
“Today’s India is preparing a base not only for today but for the next thousand years,” Modi declared, highlighting the nation’s ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, which encourages households to generate their own solar power and sell surplus electricity back to the grid, was presented as a key initiative. Modi highlighted the financial benefits for consumers, claiming families could save up to ₹25,000 annually on electricity bills. This saved money could then be invested, potentially generating a substantial sum over time.
The scheme also promotes job creation and environmental protection. The government aims to train 3 lakh youth as skilled manpower, including 1 lakh Solar PV Technicians. Each household that adopts solar energy contributes to reducing carbon emissions, with every 3 kilowatts of solar power generated preventing the release of 50-60 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Modi also announced plans to develop Ayodhya as a model solar city, with the aim of powering all homes, offices, and services in the city with solar energy. Similar initiatives are planned for 16 other cities across India.
The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2070. He emphasized that concepts like “Green Future” and “Net Zero” are not mere slogans, but vital commitments for the nation’s future.
India’s rapid progress in renewable energy was highlighted, with a 35% increase in electricity generation from nuclear energy in the past decade. The country is also working towards becoming a global leader in the field of green hydrogen.
With its commitment to clean energy and ambitious plans for a green future, India is showcasing its dedication to tackling climate change and securing its energy independence for generations to come.
