**Gandhinagar, Gujarat:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST) on Monday, highlighting India’s commitment to a sustainable future. The three-day summit will focus on the advancement of renewable energy technology and policy, aiming to benefit not only India but the entire world.
Modi, addressing the gathering, expressed confidence that the discussions at the summit will be fruitful and contribute to the global energy transition. He emphasized that India’s commitment to renewable energy is driven by the aspirations of its citizens, who believe in a sustainable and prosperous future.
“The trust and confidence of 140 crore citizens, the youth, and women, who believe their aspirations will take new flight in this third term,” Modi remarked, highlighting the government’s recent victory in the national elections.
He further elaborated on the government’s vision to make India a developed nation by 2047, with a focus on expanding physical and social infrastructure. Key initiatives include the construction of 7 crore houses, the establishment of 12 new industrial cities, and the launch of 15 semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains.
In the realm of green energy, the government is investing heavily in offshore wind energy projects, hydropower, and the promotion of rooftop solar power. The Prime Minister touted India’s progress in achieving its climate commitments, achieving the targets set in the Paris Agreement nine years ahead of schedule.
Modi also highlighted India’s ambition to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transforming the green transition into a people’s movement. He presented the “PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme” as a prime example, where the government funds rooftop solar setups for families, empowering them as power producers. This scheme has already registered over 1.3 crore families, with installations completed in 3.25 lakh homes.
“Every 3 kilowatts of solar electricity generated will prevent emission of 50-60 tonnes of carbon dioxide,” Modi stated, emphasizing the crucial role every family plays in combatting climate change. The RE-INVEST summit serves as a testament to India’s leadership in promoting renewable energy, fostering a sustainable future for both India and the world.
