Tue Sep 17 03:59:48 UTC 2024: ## India Condemns Iran’s Supreme Leader’s Remarks on Muslim Community
**New Delhi, September 16, 2024:** The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a strong condemnation of remarks made by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, regarding the condition of the Muslim community in India.
In a statement released on Monday, the MEA termed Khamenei’s comments “misinformed and unacceptable.” The Iranian leader had earlier included India alongside Gaza and Myanmar as places where Muslims were facing suffering.
The MEA statement emphasized that “Countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own record before making any observations about others.”
Khamenei’s statement was made on the occasion of Islamic Unity Week, where he met with leaders of Iran’s Sunni community, praising their contribution to Iranian society. He emphasized the concept of an “Islamic Ummah,” urging unity between Shia and Sunni sects.
However, his inclusion of India in a list of places where Muslims are suffering has sparked a strong reaction from the Indian government.
