Tue Sep 17 03:59:49 UTC 2024: ## India Rejects Iran’s Claims of Muslim Suffering, Advises Introspection

**New Delhi, India** – The Indian government has strongly condemned comments by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei regarding alleged suffering of Muslims in India. Khamenei, during a speech commemorating Prophet Mohammed’s birth anniversary, highlighted the “suffering” of Muslim communities worldwide, including those in India, Gaza, and Myanmar.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) swiftly responded, calling Khamenei’s remarks “misinformed and unacceptable.” The MEA statement asserted that “countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own record before making any observations about others.” This statement is seen as a direct rebuke of Iran’s own human rights record, particularly in light of ongoing protests against the mandatory hijab law, sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody.

Thousands of Iranian women took to the streets on Monday, marking the second anniversary of Amini’s death, defying the strict dress code.

Despite this recent diplomatic tension, India and Iran maintain strong bilateral relations, with India’s involvement in the strategic Chabahar port being a key element of their partnership.

While India has rejected Khamenei’s claims, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the broader relationship between the two countries.
