Sun Sep 15 17:15:54 UTC 2024: ## Kyprios Retains Irish St Leger Crown at the Curragh

**Curragh, Ireland:** Kyprios, the 2-5 favourite, successfully defended his Irish St Leger title at the Curragh on Sunday. Ridden by Ryan Moore, the horse stormed ahead in the final furlong, securing another victory for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

This win adds to Kyprios’ impressive 2023 season, which already includes the Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup, a remarkable achievement considering his return from a serious injury last year.

The race for second place was a close affair, with Vauban, trained by WP Mullins, edging out Giavellotto. Scorthy Champ finished third, narrowly ahead of Henri Matisse.

Earlier in the day, Scorthy Champ pulled off a surprise win in the National Stakes, beating the previously unbeaten Henri Matisse. The Joseph O’Brien-trained horse, ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, claimed the victory despite being a 12-1 outsider.

The win for Kyprios and the surprise victory of Scorthy Champ capped off an exciting day of racing at the Curragh.
