Sun Sep 15 03:03:14 UTC 2024: ## Polish Star Zmarzlik Wins Fifth Speedway World Championship, British Rider Lambert Takes First SGP Victory

**Vojens, Denmark** – Bartosz Zmarzlik of Poland secured his fifth Speedway World Championship title on Saturday at the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens, despite finishing second in the final race. Zmarzlik, who now holds the third most world championship titles in the sport’s history, is now just one title away from equalling the record held by Ivan Mauger and Tony Rickardsson.

The victory came after a nail-biting final race, where Zmarzlik was narrowly beaten by Great Britain’s Robert Lambert, who secured his first-ever Speedway GP victory in his 10th final appearance. Lambert’s triumph also secured him at least a bronze medal in the overall championship standings.

“This is an unbelievable night after what happened last season in this place,” Zmarzlik said. “I couldn’t compete. But now I have taken this championship before the last round, and that’s very good for me because now I have a bit of an easier life until March. I am very happy because I am the first rider to win three world titles in a row in the history of the Speedway GP series.”

Lambert, who is now guaranteed a podium finish in the championship, expressed his elation at finally breaking through for a SGP victory. “It hasn’t really sunk in as yet, but it’s an incredible feeling,” he said. “After the finish line, there were a few tears under my goggles. It has been a long time coming.”

The event was held in front of a large crowd of 15,378 spectators, the highest attendance at the Vojens Speedway Center since Jacob Olsen took over leadership from his father, three-time world champion Ole Olsen.

The final round of the Speedway GP World Championship will take place on September 28th at the Polish track of Torun. While Zmarzlik has already secured the title, Lambert will be aiming to maintain his second-place position and secure the silver medal.
