Sun Sep 15 16:24:33 UTC 2024: ## SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn Mission Concludes with Historic Splashdown

**Florida, USA** – The SpaceX Polaris Dawn mission, a groundbreaking commercial spaceflight venture, has concluded with a successful splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico near Florida. The Dragon spacecraft, carrying tech billionaire Jared Isaacman and his crew of three, touched down at 3:37am EST on Sunday, marking the end of a historic journey that included the first-ever commercial spacewalk.

The four-member crew, comprised of Isaacman, SpaceX engineer Anna Menon, engineer Sarah Gillis, and former US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Scott Poteet, were retrieved by a recovery team shortly after the splashdown. After brief medical checks, the crew, all smiling and waving, were safely aboard the recovery vessel.

“Happy, healthy, home,” the Polaris Program announced on X, celebrating the successful return. “A new era of commercial spaceflight dawns, with much more to come.”

The mission, which launched from the Kennedy Space Center on Tuesday, saw the crew venture deeper into space than any humans in the past half-century, reaching an altitude of 1,400km, surpassing the International Space Station and marking the furthest humans have travelled from Earth since the Apollo missions to the moon.

During the mission, the crew conducted dozens of experiments, including an inter-satellite laser communication demonstration and the first commercial spacewalk, with Gillis making history as the 265th person to ever perform a spacewalk.

The Polaris Dawn mission is just the beginning of the Polaris Program, a collaborative effort between Isaacman and SpaceX. While the cost of the mission remains undisclosed, it marks a significant step towards democratizing space exploration and opening up new opportunities for commercial space travel, including the potential for more spacewalks in the future.
